Mills Avenue is open for traffic again after the street was closed for two months from Turner Road to Elm Street for city construction.
The closure allowed the city and its contractor, DA Wood Construction, to install a 36-inch water main to connect the surface water treatment plant near Lodi Lake to the city's water system.
The city met its goal to have the construction completed before school starts on Monday. But the paving job is temporary, because workers still need to connect the underground water main to the water lines.
The city plans to do that work during Lodi Unified School District's two-week break during October. At that time, the road will be paved over permanently. The water treatment plant is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion in August 2012.
