The California Small Business Association and the California Small Business Roundtable released its 2013 Honor Roll on Monday, designed to recognize and honor legislators who are friendly to small businesses.

State Sen. Cathleen Galgiani, D-Stockton, was honored in the highest category for her commitment to annually hosting a small business roundtable with local Central Valley businesses and promoting small business growth in California. It is the second year in a row Galgiani has been recognized.

“California’s small businesses are the backbone of our economy, employing local residents and putting money back to work in our communities,” Galgiani said. “I am pleased to be recognized by the California Small Business Association for my efforts to support small business.”

The honor comes the same day Galgiani and State Sen. Anthony Cannella, R-Ceres, introduced legislation that would revise the mandated deadlines in the 2007 Flood Protection Legislative package in order to create a realistic set of statewide standards so that counties and property owners are protected, and businesses looking to expand to the Central Valley are able to.

“The current Flood Protection law does not have a realistic set of completion dates for the counties I represent,” Galgiani said. “This bill is designed to craft a more appropriate timeline and protect counties from the unintended consequences of the original 2007 flood legislation.”

Current law will result in a moratorium on development in affected regions. This moratorium will impede the ability of businesses to grow and expand job creation in the Valley, according to Galgiani.
