Born and raised: Rural Fresno area.
Residence: Ripon for 28 years.
Education: Engineering degree at California State University, Fresno.
Career: Worked in public works 2 1/2 years for Tulare County and 11 years for the city of Fresno; assistant public works director in San Joaquin County for 15 years; public works director for two years; and chief administrative officer for 11 1/2 years.
Family: Wife Sylvia, whom he married 38 years ago; four children and seven grandchildren. All live in Ripon.

Manuel Lopez, San Joaquin County's chief executive officer the past 11 1/2 years, has announced his retirement from county service.
He gave a March 29 retirement date, but it isn't etched in stone. If the Board of Supervisors wants Lopez to continue as chief administrative officer through the county budget process in June, he said he'd be glad to do so.
