A 44-year-old woman could face murder charges because an elderly man she allegedly beat on New Year’s Eve in a Galt motel room has died from his injuries, police said.
The suspect, Lisa Michelle Lea, has been in custody at the Sacramento County jail since being arrested by the Galt Police Department on Jan. 2.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was in his 70s and had been hospitalized since the Dec. 31 attack at the Royal Delta Hotel on North Lincoln Way, said Lt. Jim Uptegrove of the Galt Police Department. The victim died Saturday at a Sacramento-area care home, police said.
The victim and Lea each lived in the hotel prior to the assault and would sometimes share a room, police said. He was found by officers performing a welfare check at the request of the hotel’s manager, police said. The 71-year-old victim was found unconscious in a bathroom of the hotel on Lincoln Way.
Lea is unemployed, Uptegrove said, and the incident is believed to have started as an argument that turned physical. No weapons were found by police during a search of the room, Uptegrove said.
The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office will determine whether or not to prosecute Lea for homicide, Uptegrove said. Lea is currently being held without bail and facing charges of felony battery and attempted murder, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department booking records.
Her next court date is June 22 at 8:30 a.m. at the Lorenzo Patiño Hall of Justice in Sacramento.
