Manuel Martin, a 25-year-old Republican, is scheduled to announce his candidacy for the 9th Assembly District seat at Monday’s meeting of the Lodi Citizens in Action, the community’s Tea Party Patriots affiliate.
Martin, founder of the Stockton Tea Party Patriots chapter, will seek the Assembly seat now held by Richard Pan, D-Sacramento, whose district includes the Lodi-Galt area.
Martin’s platform will center on his quest for the state Legislature to be in session for only three months a year — January through March. Under his proposal, each member of the Assembly and State Senate would be allowed to author only two bills per year so that all legislators will have the the time to read each and every bill before voting on it.
Monday’s meeting, open to the public, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at United Congregational Christian Church, 701 S. Hutchins St., Lodi.
