The trial for a Galt woman accused of attempted murder will continue later this month, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office.
Lisa Michelle Lea, 44, is currently in custody at the Sacramento County Jail awaiting trial for allegedly beating an elderly man in a Galt motel on New Year's Eve. She appeared in court Monday morning before the proceedings were pushed to later this month.
The victim, a man in his 70s, died as a result of his injuries in early June. It is unclear if the charges will remain the same or if she will be tried for murder, said Shelly Orio, public information officer for the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office.
"Right now the charge is still attempted murder," she said.
Lea was arrested Jan. 2 by the Galt Police Department. Both Lea and the victim lived at the Royal Delta Hotel on North Lincoln Way and occasionally spent the night together, police said. The assault allegedly took place Dec. 31 after an argument turned physical, police said.
Lea's trial will resume Aug. 15 at 8:30 a.m.
