Background: Tilton grew up in Manteca and started his teaching career at Manteca High School. In 1992, he joined the San Joaquin County Office of Education, co-founding the “one.” program. He authored several charter petitions for schools.

Occupation: Superintendent of charter schools, New Jerusalem Elementary School District.

Residence: Stockton.

Education: Bachelor of Arts from California State University, Stanislaus; Master of Education from University of LaVerne; Doctor of Education from University of the Pacific; graduate of Association of California School Administrators, Superintendents and Personnel Administrators Academy.

Family: He is married to his wife Shalice and has four grown children.

Jeff Tilton wants to be the kind of superintendent who will make a big difference for students.

Tilton didn’t think he would get the chance to serve as San Joaquin County superintendent of schools until last August, when he heard that Mick Founts wouldn’t be running for re-election.
