A 25-year-old documented member of the Norteño gang was stabbed in the stomach during a fight Friday night in the carnival area of the Grape Festival at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to Lodi police.
The man was taken to a local hospital, but his wounds were not life-threatening, police said.
Three juveniles, whose names were not released, were arrested. The one police believe committed the stabbing was transported to San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and gang enhancements, police said.
Police Sgt. Sierra Brucia, commenting on a News-Sentinel reader saying that it isn’t safe to attend the festival anymore, said that the police department is quite visible on the grounds and do a pretty good job of keeping everyone safe.
There were also plain-clothes officers and parole officers, Brucia said, and the Grape Festival authorities hired private security.
