Suspected San Joaquin cockfighting ring busted
RIPON - Eight people will have to appear in court after being cited for allegedly being involved in a cockfighting ring in rural San Joaquin County.
Sheriff's deputies broke up the suspected ring this weekend after receiving an anonymous tip. They cited and released eight people with a promise to appear in court. Charges in such cases could range from animal fighting to gambling.
Deputy Les Garcia said authorities who responded to the scene northeast of Ripon found dead roosters on the ground and several live roosters in cages. Animal control officers were called in.
