A Woodbridge woman who contends that a San Joaquin County Sheriff’s deputy dumped her two dogs in a remote field says that she’s been reunited with one of the dogs — her three-legged pit bull.

The pit bull appeared healthy, said the dog’s owner, Patricia Haggard. Her 7-year-old German shepherd, however, is still missing.

The pit bull had been seen around a Woodbridge business since Monday. People had been giving water to the dog until a man was able to track down Haggard on Wednesday after a story about the situation appeared in the News-Sentinel.

The man told Haggard that the German shepherd had also been around the business. But it hasn’t been seen since Monday.

A deputy told Haggard that he found her two dogs, which had escaped from her property, and loaded them into his patrol car.

After learning that two local animal shelters were full, the deputy drove the dogs into a field and let them loose, without food or water, Haggard said.

On Monday, animal control officers from the Sheriff’s Office’s began scouring the area around Lucas Road in Woodbridge, where Haggard contends the deputy dumped her dogs.

Sheriff’s spokesman Les Garcia said the release of the dogs, as alleged by Haggard, would have been improper and his office is investigating the incident.
