There are two registered sex offenders living on the east side of Highway 99. A car was stolen on Park Terrace Drive last month. There’s been a rash of personal property thefts. These and other statistics can now be found with the click of a button thanks to the Galt’s new online crime-tracking tool.
It is part of a new dispatch system the Galt Police Department has been using since late last year to improve communication, reporting, crime analysis and officer safety.
The software package, provided by Sun Ridge Systems, Inc., was created with law enforcement input and includes a public access component that went live on the city’s website late last month.
Approximately 100 police departments across the state use the same system.
Galt has been working on its regional crime analysis and information sharing project for the past few months, according to City Manager Jason Behrmann.
“Our citizens now have the benefit of being able to use a link on our website to see basic crime information, when and where it has occurred, including checking their own neighborhoods,” he said in an employee newsletter posted online.
In the future, the police department will be sharing critical crime information data with regional law enforcement partners in an effort to predict when and where crimes might occur in the future and who may be a victim, Behrmann said.
