One arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide

A man was arrested after being involved in a fight that ended up with a man shot Saturday in front of a store near the intersection of Pine and Stockton streets, according to Lodi Police.

Several men showed up to shop at Casa Del Pueblo Lodi on Pine Street just before 2 p.m. They were confronted by a group of teenagers and young adults believed to be members of the SureƱos gang.

An altercation between the two groups grew into a fight. One young man pulled a handgun and shot a man in the other group several times, said Lt. Bill Alexander.

The injured man was taken to a hospital in Sacramento. At the time, his wounds were not considered life-threatening, according to police Sgt. Sierra Brucia. The shooter and other suspects fled the scene.

Police later arrested Enrique Papia, whose age was not available, on suspicion of attempted homicide and gang enhancement, Brucia said.The shooter had not been apprehended by Monday morning, he added.
