The major reconstruction of Twin Cities Road could begin sooner than anticipated if the Galt City Council approves an expedited plan on Tuesday.
The largest change will be widening the road between Fermoy Way and Bergeron Road in anticipation of Walmart's 2013 opening. Other improvements on Twin Cities Road will include installing a roundabout at Highway 99, adding lanes to accommodate both the increased traffic and necessary left-hand turns into the future Walmart and other existing businesses.
The roundabout project is expected to start in the spring.
All of the Twin Cities Road improvements will be paid for through a combination of transportation funds and a fee agreement with Walmart.
At Tuesday's meeting, council members will vote on this fee payment, as well as a separate $247,000 contract with a design firm for the additional work.
The City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Galt City Hall City Council chambers, 380 Civic Drive, Galt.
