Who went: Brian, Cathy, B.J., Peter and Andrew Campbell
Destination: A quick trip to Oregon for Spring Break.
Highlights: We went whale watching. We stayed in Brookings, Ore., which is located at the first stop light in Oregon along Highway 101. We whale watched at Harris Beach State Park, Cape Ferrelo and Cape Blanco State Park. We saw nine gray whales at Cape Ferrelo. It was Whale Watching Week, so there were "Whale Watching Spoken Here" volunteers at 28 locations along the coast. The males are now heading back north to feed in the Bering Sea. The females and calves will be following at a later date.
We also went to the West Coast Game Park which is a walk-thru safari where we were able to meet, pet, film and walk among hundreds of free roaming wildlife. Our youngest son, Andrew, was able to pet a baby lynx, cougar, opossum and ferret. We also enjoyed a quick visit to The Prehistoric Gardens in Oregon's Rain Forest which includes life-size replicas of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals among the primitive plants that grow in this area.
Oregon was beautiful, the people were friendly and we really enjoyed not having to pay sales tax. We went to a Dollar Tree store where everything was really only a dollar and the dollar menu at McDonald's was also really only a dollar.
