Who went: Winemaker Roger Nicholas and teacher Brenda Nicholas. Retired teachers Gary and Lori Haas.

Hometown: Lodi.

Vacation spot: Europe, Zac de Sainte, Craix at the Gorge de Verdun in Aigunes, France. We also visited several other places in France and Italy during our three-week vacation.

Why did you go? This trip was a dream for Roger for many years. Gary, Lori and Brenda just went along for the ride.

Was it a trip from heaven or that other place? Absolutely heaven!

What was the best part of your trip? We loved feeling like we became a part of the everyday community in places we stayed. We avoided most of the typical tourist sports. We ate where the locals ate and tried not to butcher the French and Italian languages too much.

What was the worst part of your trip? Can’t think of anything — even when we got lost, we just considered it part of the adventure!

Did anything memorable happen? In a very small French town called Monferrat, we witnessed what we lovingly called, “The Passing of the Parsley.” It was hilarious.

Would you go back? We would love to go back.
