SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say cadaver dogs have alerted them of possible human remains in the rubble of a massive fire that destroyed the former home of a news station over the weekend.

San Jose Fire Capt. Cleo Doss says one of the dogs had a hit Wednesday at about 1:30 p.m. and that another dog detected something a short time later at the same location.

Doss says the dogs are very experienced and reliable but that officials will conduct a deeper excavation Thursday to confirm whether there are remains under the debris.

Deputy District Attorney David Boyd says that if remains are indeed discovered, there are likely to be more charges for 55-year-old Stillman Pfeffer, who has already been charged with arson and first-degree burglary for his role in the five-alarm fire that burned down the former KNTV building.
