Can’t get enough of Disney movie magic? This weekend, Disney on Ice brings the company’s beloved tales to life with skating, acrobatics and special effects.

“Disney on Ice presents DREAM BIG,” the ice skating extravaganza that will bring a little movie magic to the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento this weekend, follows the adventures of Disney princesses and their friends.

“It’s an amazing show,” said Katarina Hockley, a California figure skater. She’s been skating with Feld Entertainment, the company that provides the cast for Disney on Ice, for seven years.

The audience will join Tinkerbell in a journey through several worlds of Disney.

Elsa and Anna of Arendelle will learn the power of love, while Ariel will make her way onto dry land and Jasmine will explore her world. Rapunzel, Cinderella and Belle will learn how to change their own destinies, and Snow White, Tiana and Aurora will learn about their own inner strength. They’re accompanied by friends from Olaf the Snowman to the Seven Dwarves.

“You’ll see a 20-foot dragon breathe fire onto the ice,” Hockley said. Don’t worry — the ice won’t melt.

Hockley portrays a number of characters in several of the scenes.

“You’ll see me here and there throughout,” she said.

“DREAM BIG” is her second Disney on Ice production; she’s also skated in “Let’s Celebrate!”

For Hockley, who has been skating since she was 3 years old, it’s a dream come true.

“I love traveling, I love performing, I love being in front of the audiences and seeing the little kids dressed as their favorite Disney characters,” she said.

She’s been performing on ice since she was 12, and got her start with her home rink in her native Chino Hills. She skated in the arena’s Christmas shows. While she competed with U.S. Figure Skating and at the collegiate level — including earning a few medals — one of her favorite skating memories was her first Christmas show at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

“I was the very first skater and was given the opportunity to line up backstage next to Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Goofy because they were in the first act with me,” she said.

She was a fan of Disney on Ice long before she joined the cast.

“When I grew up, I always went to go see the shows when they played in my hometown,” she said.

Now, she and her husband, Graham, get a chance to bring Disney magic to a new generation of ice skating fans.

She hopes Disney fans will come out to the show in Sacramento.

It won’t just be watching — and gasping — as skaters, acrobats and special effects experts bring scenes from your favorite Disney movies to life, either.

“You’ll be able to sing along to all your favorite music,” she said.
