Who went: Stanley and Edith Gruebele
The trip: Cruise around Cape Horn starting at Buenos Aires on March 30 and disembarking in San Francisco on May 2.
Why did you go? It was a lifelong dream of Edith's to go around Cape Horn in South America. Also, to see some of the countries in South America.
Highlights: Falkland Islands, cruising the Drake Passage and viewing Cape Horn. Cruising Beagle Channel and seeing Ushuaia, Argentina - where we visited the end of the road, Highway No. 3. After that, a highlight was cruising the Straight of Magellan and seeing Punta Arenas, Chili or Patagonia as it also referred. Puerto Mont, Chile was also very interesting, as was Valparaiso and Coquimbo, Chili. Next came Peru. There, we visited San Martin, Callao, and Lima. Manta (Quito), Ecuador, was quite unique. We saw how they make straw hats and buttons, jewelry and other things out of the large seeds of coconut. Next came Panama, where we saw Fuerte Amador. We also crossed the Equator successfully! Puntarenas, with a trip to Sarchi in Costa Rica, is a must. We enjoyed Costa Rica a lot. The next stop was Huatulco, Mexico. It's becoming the next Cancun. The rest of the trip included stops along the Mexican Riviera. The final stop was in San Francisco.
Would you go again: Absolutely! South America has a lot of sights that we did not get to see because of limited time. South America is beautiful.
