July 5, 2010, Bacharach, Germany — Christi and I have wanted to travel in Germany forever, really. We planned a trip there back in 1987 and then Christi became pregnant with our oldest son, Rob, who will be 23 soon. When the U.S. Air Force sent him to Ramstein AFB in southern Germany, the old idea became a great new idea.

Mike, 20, wanted to go with us. He would bring his friend from Lodi High days, Will Darsie. And they wanted to see former German exchange student Kai Heinius. Of course, once in Germany, they’d have to ditch us and backpack around Europe.

Joan Rivers’ “condition remains serious” after being rushed to a hospital Thursday following complications during an outpatient surgery, her daughter said Friday.

“My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world,” Melissa Rivers told E! News in an exclusive statement. “Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible.”

The comedy legend and “Fashion Police” host has been placed in a medically induced coma, according to New York Daily News sources and other reports; she had stopped breathing during minor throat surgery Thursday morning and was admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital.

The 81-year-old is stable but still in critical condition, E! News said.

Melissa Rivers, 46, and her son Cooper traveled immediately from L.A. to be with Joan. After arrival in New York, Melissa said her mom was “resting comfortably” and surrounded by family.

Joan Rivers’ celebrity fashion-critique show, which is co-hosted by Kelly Osbourne, Giuliana Rancic and George Kotsiopoulos and airs on Friday nights, is on the E! Network.

Kathie Lee Gifford, Joy Behar, Patti Stanger, Donald Trump, Alyssa Milano, Kathy Griffin, Larry King, Andy Cohen, Kelly Ripa, Hoda Kotb and LeAnn Rimes were among the celebrities sending thoughts and prayers to the comedy legend via social media.
