Deli Delicious first opened its doors in Lodi on May 19, offering a variety of hot and cold sandwiches as well as soups, salads, lettuce wraps and fries, also offering catering and delivery services.

Christina Thomas manages the franchise, having been promoted from assistant manager shortly after the grand opening.

She finds fulfillment in her position, as it combines her love of food with her passion for helping people, she said.

“I enjoy making sandwiches and I enjoy making people happy. It’s really satisfying to watch somebody take the first bite of a sandwich I’ve made and smile,” Thomas said.

The Lodi sandwich shop can receive up to 200 orders in a single day, although the popularity of certain menu items changes with the season.

“We don’t sell as many hot subs in the summer as we do the rest of the year. Our guests tend to go for lettuce wraps or salads,” Thomas said.

She cites the freshness of their ingredients as one of the keys to the restaurant’s success, saying that the quality of the meats, produce and bread are as important to her as they are to the customers.

Deli Delicious offers specialty sandwiches including albacore tuna, either with Swiss cheese or cream cheese, avocado and sprouts, as well as pastrami, pepperoni salami with Monterey jack and provolone and salami, avocado, sprouts and cream cheese.

Hot sandwiches include a Philly cheesesteak with Monterey jack, a regular steak and jack, and a French dip, also featuring Monterey jack cheese.

All sandwiches are available on a white or whole wheat French roll, sourdough or Dutch crunch bread, or as a lettuce wrap.

“The Works” consists of mayonnaise, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, wax peppers, olives, pickles, red onions, black pepper, oil and vinegar. Cheese options include Provolone, Monterey Jack, cheddar, Swiss, pepper jack or American.

Albacore tuna is available on one of their salads, while the chef’s salad with ham and turkey represents land and air on their salad menu. Salad toppings are served on a bed of lettuce, avocado, cucumber, cheese, tomatoes, pickles, red onions and sprouts.

Caesar and green salads are also available for those who prefer meatless options, and all salads come with a choice of Italian, Thousand Island, Caesar, blue cheese or ranch dressing, as well as oil and vinegar.

The Lodi location is the newest franchise in the Deli Delicious chain. The first Deli Delicious opened in Fresno in the early 1990s. The owners have since spread their chain throughout California, with more than 50 locations.
