I never feel old until I leave my home,

Seeing myself through another’s eyes,

They become only aware

Of the wrinkles and white hair

Which I have never tried to disguise.

Anyone with a cane automatically becomes

A person of advancing years.

A supporting hand

When you need help to stand

Is a gesture that sometimes brings tears.

For as much as we older people need help,

Understanding is a need that is great.

Because we sometimes forget,

There is no need to fret.

We’ll usually remember it later.

So as you mingle among the elder today,

Please keep this one thing in mind.

Though there are things they may lack,

Their heart and soul are intact.

That’s where there’s a wealth you may find.
