Exhausted from the hustle and bustle of the holidays? Community Theatre of Linden invites the community to relax, laugh and enjoy “Church Basement Ladies,” a musical comedy full of delightful homespun humor.

Inspired by the books of Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson — authors of the bestseller “Growing Up Lutheran: What Does This Mean?” — “Church Basement Ladies” is a small-style musical with a big heart. The play was written by Jim Stowell and Jessica Zuehike with music and lyrics by Drew Jansen.

The music will keep toes tapping, and the audience will recognize the main characters, a group of ladies who prepare all of the food and decorations for their church’s events — large, small, somber or happy.

The story takes place at the East Cornucopia Lutheran Church of the Prairie in rural Cornucopia, Minn. Sometimes the surroundings make be stark and cold, but the ladies are full of warm, sage wisdom, heartfelt stories and true blessings of friendship.

Patricia Jannay, Wendi Sherman, Annette Lahman and Vanessa Vargas star in the show, with Duane Cissna as Pastor Gunderson.

Christina Chavez Nelson, who has appeared in several Stockton Civic Theatre, San Joaquin Delta College, Kiley’s Dinner Theatre and Community Theatre of Linden productions, is directing “Church Basement Ladies.”

June Hook Spencer is serving as the production’s musical director, and Robert Krantz from Hutchins Street Square is the technical director and set designer.
