The buoys are ringing

as the fog creeps in, displaying its claws,

menacing the small craft clustered on the shore.

High winds on the Delta

bring up the waves

slapping sense into the groggy sailor tying up loose ends.

High winds on the Delta

where salt tears

broil in sudden small furies

spinning fishing lines madly in hopeful hands.

Brackish marshes draw egrets and cranes

hunting silver treasures

among the garbage and the flowers.

High winds on the Delta

crowd the sky with clouds

promising rain soon

across the Sister Pacific,

they blow ominously

into my harbor, banging the door

shutters clacking.

I shudder in the sudden chill

(without you)

as my boat is finally grounded.
