Fireworks, hockey, music and champagne: Finding local fun on New Year’s Eve

In just a few days, 2017 will be coming to a close and 2018 will begin.

No matter how the past year has gone, 2018 brings with it a chance to start fresh. You can kick bad habits, pick up new hobbies, set new goals and try new things.

So what better way to say goodbye to 2017 than with a day of celebration?

Lodi and the surrounding area offer plenty of New Year’s Eve events, from family-friendly parties to wining and dining for those over 21. Sports fans, art lovers and those who love good food and music will find something fun to do this Sunday.

Here are a few ideas, in order of starting time:

Noon Year’s Eve Family Festival

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday; 216 O St., Sacramento

The Crocker Art Museum hosts the annual party with families in mind. Enjoy music, dance performances, art activities and a countdown to noon at the museum. Admission is free. Visit www.crockerart.org for information and parking tips.

New Year’s at Five Window Beer Co.

11 a.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday; 9 W. Locust St., Lodi

The Lodi brewery is planning a low-key New Year’s Eve for those who want a calmer night of camaraderie. A disco ball will bring the New Year’s spirit to those who want to celebrate. For more information, 209-712-2336.

Scottish New Year’s Celebration at IDOL Beer Works

3 to 7 p.m. Sunday; 100 S. Sacramento St., Lodi

Join the Hogmanay Party — Scottish New Year — at the Downtown Lodi brewery. Enjoy shepherd’s pie, fish and chips, and bangers and mash, accompanied by a bagpiper. Sample Scottish ale, and cheer as the ball drops in Scotland — 4 p.m. Lodi time.

Fireworks with the Stockton Heat

5 p.m. Sunday; Stockton Arena, 248 W. Fremont St., Stockton

The minor league hockey team will host a New Year’s Eve game against the Bakersfield Condors, followed by fireworks to ring in 2018. Tickets range from $13 to $33. For more information, visit www.stocktonheat.com.

New Year’s Eve Party with Flat Busted

6 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday; 14900 W. Highway 12, Lodi

Rosa’s at Tower Park is aiming to rock the Delta on New Year’s Eve. Guests will enjoy a prime rib and lobster dinner at 6 p.m., and Flat Busted will play live music starting at 9 p.m. Dinner is $75 and requires a reservation (call 209-365-0131). For those only interested in the music, doors will open at 8:30 p.m. and the cover is $10. A balloon drop and champagne toast will be held at midnight. New Year’s Eve Sky Spectacular

6 to 10 p.m. Sunday; Old Sacramento

Enjoy live music at the Golden 1 Credit Union Stage and special kids’ activities along Front Street in Old Sacramento. Fireworks will light up the night at 9 p.m. The family-friendly event is free and open to everyone, and several of the merchants and restaurants in Old Sacramento will be serving up specials. New Year’s Eve Dinner and Dancing at Six Shooter Saloon

7 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday; 114 N. Sacramento St., Lodi

Enjoy a New Year’s Eve meal, party favors and a midnight champagne toast at the Six Shooter Saloon. The fun starts at 7 p.m., with Ray Reynolds Jr. and his Country Time Band offering live music starting at 9 p.m. A DJ will take over at 11 p.m. so guests can dance in the new year. New Year’s Eve Party with Ike & Martin

8:30 p.m. Sunday to 12:30 a.m. Monday; 2505 W. Turner Road, Lodi
