About the poet

Tayler Kramer is 17 and attends Tokay High School. This poem is about her great-grandparents’ house. They moved and are now selling the house, and it can be hard to let go. But a new family will move there and create new memories.

A door opens so slowing

Savoring each moment knowing

This’ll be the last time you walk through that door.

As you stride through the threshold, a beautiful, clean, cool scent rushes against your skin with breezes that wrap around you so softly.

Walking through each room, knowing this’ll be the last time you’ll ever see such a wonderful sight.

Soon you must say your good byes, with tears in your eyes.

Knowing this is the last time you will ever say goodbye.

As you walk back out the doors sorrow overflows your soul, knowing this is the last time you will ever close this door.
