The San Joaquin County Historical Museum is the first stop on the California tour for the Smithsonian exhibition “The Way We Worked.”

The display was originally developed by the National Archives and Records Administration. It explores how work has become a central element in American culture, impacting individual lives and the fabric of communities.

It traces changes over the last 150 years, including the growth of manufacturing and the rise of technology.

The exhibition includes historical photographs, archival accounts of workers, film, and audio. The exhibition will tour six communities in California through July 2014. The San Joaquin County Historical Museum will host the exhibit through Nov. 16.
