"The Clinic"

Brian Stamos

The curtains are drawn and music is loud in this smoke-filled waiting room,

Doctors are busy filling prescriptions for candlelit faces of gloom.

Crowded with people, some laughing, some crying, some stumbling through the door,

As the patients are handled, the dosage increases, prescribing one more, one more.

This is a drug store and clinic where the patients do 'well to call,'

Doctors take orders while mixing the drugs of pain killing alcohol.

The doctor inquires, "How are you feeling?" The patient says, "Like hell!

So this time give me a double and make it with vodka from the well."

"Give me one for my friend and one for the road and one for the one who was.

Give me one for my wife and one for your wife and one, just because."

The patient complains of aches and pains and asks the doc for advise,

The doctor knows his words won't be heard, so he tickles their ears to be nice.

But, now the clinic is closing so the patient yells, "One more round"

As he tries to forget the realities of life while awaiting that every night sound.
