Lodi’s summertime cocktail guide: Shaken and stirred

Refreshing spirits are a summer staple, but organic tastes with floral essences and herbal-flavors are trending right now. When crafting the perfect summer cocktail, think citrus heavy, thirst quenching and tart tasting for this season.

Rosewood bartenders say ginger, grapefruit and hibiscus are some of their favorite flavors to mix right now, but the key is creating a counterbalance by combining citrus with sweet, fruity flavors. Garry’s Lounge bartenders add that summer is all about going heavy on the garnish, especially oranges. Local bartenders provide some of their favorite signature cocktails along with tips on how to host a hip cocktail party by serving the newest tastes.

Pop Bomb from Take 27

1 1⁄2 oz. raspberry rum

3⁄4 oz. blue curacao

Fill glass with lemonade

1⁄4 oz. float grenadine

Tools you’ll need: No tools needed.

Garnish: Since the drink looks like the popular red, white and blue popsicle, Take 27 bartenders garnish with a red straw. They also suggest blueberries and strawberries if you want to add something more, or a sparkler, the staff joked.

A.M.F. from Garry’s Lounge

1⁄2 shot vodka

1⁄2 shot gin

1⁄2 shot light rum

1⁄2 shot tequila

1⁄2 sweet and sour

Float with blue curacao

(About) 3 oz. sprite, fill pint glass

Shake ingredients with ice, pour into pint glass.

Tools you’ll need: Spout, shaker, pint glass.

Garnish: Lemon.

Red Jasmine Cooler from Rosewood

2 oz. Absolut Ruby Red vodka (grapefruit-flavored)

1 oz. organic jasmine liquor

1⁄2 fresh lime (squeezed)

1 oz. fresh squeezed grapefruit

1 oz. pomegranate juice

Shake using a shaker and pint glass, strain and pour over ice in a highball .

Tools you’ll need: Shaker, pint glass, highball glass, strainer glass.

Garnish: Orange

Huckleberry Martini from Whisky Barrel

1 shot Bulleit rye whiskey

1⁄2 shot huckleberry liquor

Squeeze of fresh orange

Splash Sweet and sour

Shake and serve up with an orange slice.

Tools you’ll need: Shaker, cold martini glass.

Garnish: Orange slice.

Jasmine Lime Cooler from Crush Kitchen

2 oz. Hanger One lime vodka

1 oz. jasmine liquor

3⁄4 oz. jasmine tea simple syrup

2 oz. Fresh squeezed limejuice

Shake ingredients with ice and pour.

Tools you’ll need: Shaker, glass.

Garnish: Edible flower.
