Deniro is an approximately 5-year-old, neutered pit bull terrier/Labrador retriever mix. He weighs approximately 40 pounds.

Deniro has a bit of an independent spirit, but he is very friendly and has been seeking out human companionship more and more as PALS volunteers work with him. He always seems to enjoy time outdoors, and he always takes a few laps as soon as he’s brought out to the dog run. He will slow down, sniff the air and watch the cars drive by before running leisurely laps again.

When he’s had his fill of playtime, Deniro settles down nicely, and that’s the perfect time to shower him with lots of love and affection. Deniro knows the command “sit” and walks fairly well on a leash, but continued basic obedience training is recommended.

For more information, call PALS at 209-224-0354. To meet other cats and dogs available for adoption, stop by the PALS Adoption Center at 1405 W. Kettleman Lane, next to the Lodi Animal Shelter. Center hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed Sunday and Monday.

PALS is a Lodi-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the welfare of companion animals in Lodi. Visit www.petfinder.com to view cats and dogs currently available for adoption, or www.palslodi.org to find out how you can volunteer or foster the many animals waiting for permanent homes.

Dora is 4 to 5 years old and weighs 21 pounds. She is very playful with other dogs and is always trying to make friends. She warms up to people after a minute.

Dora was pulled from a shelter and brought in as a stray. She is house-trained and uses both a doggy door and Potty Pads. She walks very well on a leash.

Dora enjoys playing with toys and loves baby carrots as a treat. She will put a paw on someone when she is seeking pets and affection.

Dora would do best in a home without young children, and should have a playful canine playmate for a companion.

Her portrait is compliments of 4 Paws Pet Photography.

Animal Friends Connection is a Lodi nonprofit organization dedicated to helping companion animals since 1990. For more information, call 209-365-0535. Come join the Walk N Wag program at 9 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays, or any time throughout the week. Volunteer walkers take dogs on a one-mile loop around the sanctuary. The dogs love it!
