jenn,seven films played at the local theater. two played within an easy driving distance, and two more are available at any video rental place.I for one appreciate movie critics who review lesser known films. It is nice to know they take the time to view films from lesser-known studios. Not every good movie comes from Disney or Pixar.By reading these types of reviews I learn about several types of films, some I may never have heard of. Get out of Lodi, Jenn, experience the wide world of cinema. There's a lot to see and experience besides the "mainstream".

Sorry, seven -- "The Hurt Locker," quite inexplicably, never made it here. It's probably going to win the best picture and best director Oscars, though, so I think it still counts as relatively "mainstream."

Exactly what I was going to point out, chef. If people limit themselves to what is playing at their local multiplex, they are missing out on an entire world of filmmaking.And to answer Jenn, eight of the top 11 played in Lodi, with "Antichrist" and "Trick 'r Treat" being available immediately on DVD or On Demand. "In the Loop" played in Sacramento, a mere 40-minute drive from Lodi.

There is a world that exists beyond Lodi. Part of reading a newspaper is learning about new things, like movies you've never heard of.

jenn,all of these films were mainstream. perhaps you need to step out of your box? Most of the films listed were extremely popular, so I don't know how you have never heard of them?

I've only heard of 4 of the movies he discusses. It would be nice if the LNS reviewer talked about mainstream titles that the general public is likely to see. Most of these sound obscure, at best, and not likely to be in anyone's NetFlix queue.
