Years ago, when I was covering the police beat in Lodi, I met a young officer named Robin Burcell. She struck me as especially bright and motivated, and I wasn’t surprised when I learned later on that she aspired to be a novelist. She was obviously gifted.

In recent weeks, with much being written about women who “Lean In,” and embrace achievement, I’ve thought about Robin and how she has prevailed on varied fronts: wife, mom, police officer, novelist. Robin is one of Lodi’s bright lights, and we’re delighted to feature her life and achievement in our main story.
