After drinking the best wine she’d ever tasted and finding no more, Sue Tipton did what she had to do ... she made her own
- About Sue Tipton
Sue Tipton, 56, grew up in Chicago and attended four colleges while moving repeatedly across the U.S. for her husband’s corporate job. She moved to California in 1999 and bought 12 acres of Zinfandel vineyards in Acampo with a 100-year-old barn on the property. Today, it’s converted to a winery and tasting room. She lives a few hundred yards away with her husband, Rodney. She enjoys flyfishing trips with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren when her children visit from the Pacific Northwest.
Contact Acquiesce Winery and Vineyards at 209-333-6102, or visit the tasting room at 22353 North Tretheway Road in Acampo.

Sue Tipton has traveled the world. But her true inspiration for building her own winery didn’t come from a villa in Italy or a castle in France.
She was standing in a Stockton BevMo! store in 2006, holding an empty bottle of the best wine she’d ever tasted. She asked an employee where she could find more of it. After a quick inventory search, the employee shook her head.
