What are your favorite movies?

My all-time favorite movie is The Sound of Music. I used to watch it with my mother and sister when it would come on TV once a year (before it was on DVD). My sister and I would sing all of the songs. When I was young my mom would only let me watch it until Maria and Captain Von Trapp’s wedding because I had to go to bed. When I got older, I could watch the whole thing. Now my daughter and I watch it and sing all of the songs together. One of the items on my bucket list is to travel to Austria and sing the theme song on the mountain side like in the opening scene.

What is one thing your students would never guess about you?

When I was younger I used to fish and hunt with my dad. I went through the hunter’s safety classes at 12 and got my hunting license. I only hunted pheasant with my dad who hunts a variety of animals. I always loved target shooting too. We would go fishing for striped bass, trout and cat fish. I still love fishing but haven’t done it in a while.

What is a dream you have or something you would like to accomplish in your life?

I love to travel and have done a little, but hope to do much more. I have been lucky to travel as a teacher-leader with People to People Ambassador Programs for the last 3 years. One of my dreams is to live overseas for at least a year and soak up the local culture.

What really gives you the creeps?

BUGS! Big, black, ugly bugs give me the creeps. Even a cricket with send me screaming. Every once in a while I have bug dreams and wake up yelling and flailing!

What is weirdest thing you have ever eaten?

Because my dad is a hunter, I have eaten many things that others would consider “weird” but are normal to me. I’ve eaten venison, caribou, wild boar, goat, and buffalo to name a few. This past summer I ate frogs’ leg and escargot in Paris. I will try (almost) anything once!
