May 15 postmark: Mayor Joe Serna Jr. Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to seniors who face limited access to educational and career opportunities. Students are selected based on academic achievement, financial need and community involvement. Must be majoring in studies leading to a degree in business, computer science, engineering, health services or a vocational program leading to a professional career. Students must be of Hispanic origin. Apply online.

May 15: James Beard Foundation awards scholarships to aspiring culinary professionals who will enroll in a licensed or accredited culinary school.

May 16: Civil Service Employees Insurance Group sponsors an essay competition for high school seniors who are children of full-time or retired public employees. (i.e. firefighters, police officers, teachers, school personnel, postal employees, military, federal, state and local government) Scholarships of up to $1,500 will be awarded based on the merit of essays that propose ways to reduce the accident rate among teenagers. Forms are online.

May 16: Chen Foundation — Asian Pacific Community Fund will award ten renewable $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors who will attend a CA Community College or California State University in Fall 2014. Minimum 3.0 GPA and must be low income. There is no ethnicity requirement and all majors qualify. Apply online.

May 29, 5 p.m.: US Bank will award 35 $1,000 and one $5,000 scholarships to seniors and current college students. Winners are selected in a random drawing.

May 31: Cien Amigos Scholarship Fund will award 50 $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors in our region who will attend college in fall 2014. Must have a college admission letter and a 2.5 minimum GPA. Apply online.

May 31: Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship — for high school junior student-athletes: Ten $2,000 scholarships will be awarded in Northern California to 11th-grade athletes who have a 2.5 minimum GPA. Apply online.
