Need tips on dealing with peer pressure

Dear T2T: I’ve been dealing with a lot of peer pressure lately to do things that I probably shouldn’t be doing. Can you give me some tips on dealing with these issues? — Wanna Stay Straight

Response No. 1:

Peer pressure is always a big problem growing up. You just have to try to stay true to yourself and what you believe. Try to be the person that you are and not the person that everyone else wants you to be. It is very hard to say no to people when its something that you know is not right, but in the long run it will always be better for you to just say no. You would be the person that doesn’t let anyone control you and some people will get that and some people wont. For the ones that don’t, they’ll learn that you were the one right in the near future. If you’re a follower, it ends up in bad situations. It is best to be a leader in a good way and make your own decisions. If you have friends that are trying to pressure or control your decisions, then they are probably not the best choice of friends for you. Choosing friends is a very difficult situation, you have to think about what’s best for you. I really hope that our advice is going to help you out and that you will start to do better.

Scientists have proven that the people you hangout with influence you and your life. It is possible that your "friends" don’t want what is best for you. Explain to them that you are not interested in what they are pressuring you to do. If they don’t understand you and your reasons, then try to distance yourself from them . They’re not the only people out there with the same interests. Potential friends may even be in your math class, English class, science class, or social studies. If some of the events you have been pressured into doing start affecting you in a larger scale, it may get worse. There will be a negative correlation between those activities and your school work. Seek your counselor’s help if you just cannot take it anymore. Don’t be afraid to find new hobbies such as sports or an art form. Stop the situation before it gets too serious and begins effecting your family. Think before you act; it’s YOUR life.
