Hard work pays off. Just ask the six students who were selected from the MESA Club's 50 members on campus to represent Lodi Middle School at the MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) Quiz Bowl last weekend.
This intense two-day, jeopardy-style contest was attended by more than 20 middle schools. Held on the University of the Pacific campus, difficult questions that reinforced California state math and science content standards were posed to young contestants.
Jack Gobel, Matthew Hashimoto, Max Blevins, Kimberly Hernandez-Munoz, Maya Renhult and Aldo Perez used what they had practiced in weekly MESA Club meetings to bring home the coveted first place trophy.
Lodi Middle School teachers Lora Jeanne Bethards and Paige Peabody Blevins, who advise the club, beamed with pride as their students received the award they worked so hard to achieve.
