The Lodi Rotary Club knows the importance of a literate community. Each third-grade class in Lodi will receive a dictionary as a gift from the Rotary Club. Recently, the students at Lawrence Elementary received their special books.

Lodi Rotary member Randy Knutson spoke to the students about the information in the dictionaries, which was much more than definitions. He led an interactive lesson where students read maps and even presidential biographies.

Principal Carlos Villafana said that he still witnesses older students on campus using the dictionaries they were given as third graders.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for the students to realize that they have an entire community supporting and hoping for their success,” he said.
