Dear T2T: I really want to get my cartilage pierced, but I am a little freaked out about a girl I know who got this weird tumor as a result of the scarring. Is that normal? Knowing my luck, I would be the one who ends up losing an ear over it. Have you ever heard weird stories about anything like this? Am I right to be worried? — Passion for Piercing
Response No. 1:
In my opinion you should be talking to a number one source, a doctor, about this because chances are they’ll know exactly what to say and recommend for you. It really depends on how often you take care of it and treat it, disinfect and all things like that. On the other hand, if you have sensitive and very irritable skin then maybe you shouldn’t do it. There’s always other alternatives such as clip on earring. But yes, I have heard cases where things don’t turned out as planned. For example two of my sisters had gotten these piercing and it turned into an infection because they have sensitive skin and having to sleep on it caused that for them even when they would always disinfect, so in this case I suggest you tell ask your for your doctors opinion, its your best bet.

We have all heard our fair share of stories about infection due to body piercing. I personally have not heard about tumors forming because of a scare of a piercing. I think that the likely hood of this happening is probable very rare, but if you are worried about it you should probably ask a doctor, because they have a more complete understanding of the human body and would probably know if this is even possible, what causes it, and how to prevent it. Remember, that when you get your piercing to go to a reputable business that uses new, sterile needles for each customer. The likely hood of a tumor forming is probably very low, but it is better to be safe than to be sorry when it come to your health!
