Standing at the daily morning flag salute, Reese Elementary students attentively listen to Heather Marini, a fifth-grade teacher, as she speaks about autism and how it is hard for those with autism to communicate. She asked students to be patient and encouraging to others with the disorder.
To celebrate Autism Awareness month, students will wear their blue and gold (Reese school colors) Autism Awareness T-shirts and learn more about autism every Tuesday. For the remainder of the school year, they will also collect pennies (in hopes of accruing hundreds of dollars) that they will donate to an organization that supports and researches autism.
