Montana Parafin
rescues girl next door
Summer lends itself to lazy naps and inattention
but on this day, Montana Parafin was alert and watchful while everyone
else lounged by the pool.
She rested after a dip in the deep end, and no sooner
had she begun to dry in the warm summer sun did she notice 3-year-old
neighbor Sophia heading purposefully for the diving rock sculpted
into the pools design.
The little renegade stripped off her water wings,
toddled up onto the rock and mimicked the older kids, jumping recklessly
in to the deep end of the pool.
Not missing a beat, Montana, then 10, dove in after
her and scooped her up, just as she gurgled up for air, pulling
her to safety.
She keeps the well-being of others in mind outside
the pool too, as she helped collect and organize 900 gift bags of
toiletries for homeless children through the Transitional Learning
Center in cooperation with her Girl Scout troop.
