The following students are Lodi High School's top graduates for 2009:


Colette Tse

Colette Tse

Goals for the next 10 years: I plan to attend UC Berkeley and major in chemistry and pre med.

College or job plans: I hope to become a doctor when I graduate.

Clubs and activities during high school: Interact Club, Nerds Club, Wind Ensemble, California Scholarship Federation, Key Club, Science Olympiad, County Honor Band.

Most memorable experience: Just the fun times I've had with my friends in the past years.

Parents: Chung-Hing and Josefa Tse.


Shelby Burnett

Shelby Burnett

Goals for the next 10 years: My hopes for the future are to complete a bachelor's in managerial economics and go to law school. While doing this, I want to maintain good relationships with family and friends.

College or job plans: I plan on attending Delta College for two years and then transferring to UC Davis and majoring in managerial economics.

Clubs and activities during high school: Wind Ensemble, Color Guard, 4H, FFA, CSF. Worked at Robinson's Feed Co. and as math tutor.

Most memorable experience: All of my time spent performing at various different Color Guard shows.

Parents: Todd and Shari Burnett.


Michael den Hartog

Michael den Hartog

Goals for the next 10 years: I hope to graduate from college and start a career in architecture.

College or job plans: I plan to attend USC in the fall and study architecture.

Clubs and activities during high school: Varsity water polo co-captain, varsity swimming, student advisor to the World of Wonders Science Museum, CSF.

Most memorable experience: Going undefeated in water polo for league my senior year.

Parents: Barbara and Pieter den Hartog.


Michael Haley

Goals for the next 10 years: To graduate from college and find a career in electrical engineering.

College or job plans: Attending UCLA to study electrical engineering and hope to work in that field after college.

Clubs and activities during high school: President of CSF, chancellor of the Nerds Club, water polo, swimming.

Most memorable experience: Taking Chemistry AP, the hardest class I've taken in high school.

Parents: Paul and Lynette Haley.


Andrew Verdegaal

Andrew Verdegaal

Goals for the next 10 years: Graduate from UC Santa Barbara and find a graduate school in bioengineering/biotechnology.

College or job plans: Become a bioengineer for a firm in the Bay Area or San Diego.

Clubs and activities during high school: Two years of varsity track and field, two years varsity cross country, SEAL Academy, Skills USA, Academic Decathlon.

Most memorable experience: Going to state for Academic Decathlon with my team and winning a silver medal in Economics.

Parents: Paul and Chi-Anne Verdegaal.


Joshua Mellor

Joshua Mellor

Goals for the next 10 years: I plan on becoming an infectious disease doctor. I am also thinking of getting a MD/PHD. I hope to come back to California to practice medicine after I become a doctor.

College or job plans: I am attending Siena College in the fall. There I will be in a special medical program. After four years, I will be attending Albany Medical College. After I finish medical school, I plan on doing a sub-specialty in infectious disease.

Clubs and activities during high school: Vice president of CSF, council member of Nerds Club, secretary of Video Game Club, volunteer at the Infection Control Department at Dameron Hospital, member of the Science and Engineering Academy of Lodi, member of HELP club and member of Young Voters Club.

Most memorable experience: When my dad called and told me the election results on Nov. 4 before the votes were even packed up at the voting precinct where I worked.

Parents: Grant and Sara Mellor.


Amanda Baxter

Amanda Baxter

Goals for the next 10 years: I will be attending UC Santa Barbara this fall and plan on graduating with honors with a degree in Aquatic Sciences and a minor or double major in English. Then I plan on getting my graduate degree in Marine Biology and begin my career working to protect endangered species and natural habitats.

College or job plans: For my graduate work, I am considering staying at UC Santa Barbara or going to UC San Diego or Stanford to get a degree in Marine Biology or Environmental Engineering. Ultimately, I would love to work for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Clubs and activities during high school: Classical ballet and pointe, varsity drill team, varsity badminton, baby-sitter, waitress at Alebrijes restaurant, member of the Science and Engineering Academy of Lodi, president of the Science and Engineering Club, member of the VICA/Skills USA Drafting Club, secretary of Interact, CSF, Nerds Club, volunteer for the Lodi Sandhill Crane Festival, volunteer for Lodi's Adopt a Child and volunteer for Therapy Dogs. Inc.

Most memorable experience: On may 12, 2006, I went on a field trip with the Science and Engineering Academy for the first time and I realized just what I was getting myself into for the next three years (and my future career) and met amazing people and kindred spirits, including my best friend Noel Pacheco.

Parents: Jill Cauthen and Randy Baxter, the most amazing, patient and supportive parents that any stressed out, emotional and irrational teenager could ask for.


Maria-Paz Prada

Maria-Paz Prada

Goals for the next 10 years: Get a degree in accounting, work as an accountant and eventually start a family.

College or job plans: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, major in accounting.

Clubs and activities during high school: Swim team, CSF, French Club and volunteer at Century Christian School.

Most memorable experience: Volunteering at Century Christian Preschool and playing with the little kids.

Parents: Lucia Matallana.


Jessie Kong

Jessie Kong

Goals for the next 10 years: I plan to become an architect who specializes in green design.

College or job plans: I will attend UC Berkeley and major in Environmental Economics and Policy.

Clubs and activities during high school: President of the Environmental Club, chair of the fundraising and canned food drive committees of American Red Cross Youth Services, AVID tutor, Youth Energy Summit, Teen Advisory Council, coastal and campus cleanup days.

Most memorable experience: Winning first place in the model solar home design for the solar olympics competition for two consecutive years.

Parents: Siu Yin Kong and Jing Kuang.
