Tokay High School top graduates

The following are Tokay High School's top graduates for 2004-05:

Tim Scully

Next year: I plan to attend California State University, Sacramento and graduate as quickly as possible.

Goals in life: My goal in life is to become an international lawyer and work for human rights in the world.

Clubs and activities: I am currently involved in Tokay’s Salsa Club and California Scholarship Federation, but I have been more active in the past.

What will you miss most about high school?: I will miss the people the most. It is the last real chance to get close to teachers and students alike.


Thien Nguyen

Next year: I will major in biochemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Goals in life: After I graduate from UCLA’s undergraduate school, I will continue on to medical school. I intend to practice as a physician in Southern California.

Clubs and activities: I am involved in Key Club, Spanish Club, CSF, National Honor Society, Red Cross Club and Tiger Crew. I also volunteer at the Delta Blood Band and American Red Cross.

What will you miss most about high school?: I will miss most seeing all the people I have come to be good friends with and the wonderful times I had with them.


Ryan Tong

Next year: I plan to attend Stanford University in the fall, majoring in biological sciences.

Goals in life: It is my dream to become a successful surgeon. After I graduate from Stanford, I hope to pursue a medical degree at Johns Hopkins Medical School. I look forward to finishing my residency at the Mayo Clinic and returning to California to practice.

Clubs and activities: NHS, CSF, Academic Club, Spanish Club, Science Olympiad Team co-captain, Central Valley Youth Symphony violinist, cross country, varsity badminton, Stonewood Strokers swim team, Stockton Youth Advisory Commission, Youth Television Show co-host and producer, St. Joseph’s Medical Center volunteer, American Red Cross youth leader, math tutor, The Record Youthlink columnist, President’s Volunteer Service Award, the Congressional Award, Outstanding Student of America Award and many scholarships.

What will you miss most about high school?: I will miss all the wonderful educators, friends, colleagues and family whose unwavering dedication and support have transformed my dreams into reality.


Matthew Serna

Next year: I plan on attending University of the Pacific and studying pharmacy.

Goals in life: I hope to one day become a pharmacist and eventually have a family.

Clubs and activities: Chess Club, CSF, NHS, Spanish Club, Storm Drain Detectives, Foto Club, church youth group member.

What will you miss most about high school?: I will miss all of my friends, whom I’ve known for quite some time and have shared many memories with.


Jessica Eliason

Next year: I will study biology at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

Goals in life: As an occupation, I am intrigued by the field of immunology. I would also like to go on a mission for my church and have a family.

Clubs and activities: I am very involved in church, including seminary each morning. I am in the Red Cross Club and Chess Club. I have also played tennis for the past four years at Tokay High.

What will you miss most about high school?: Without question, I will miss my friends the most. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to be with for the past four years.

Next year: I plan to study chemistry at University of California, Davis.

Goals in life: My goals are to get a good job, adopt two children and be successful at whatever I decide to do.

Clubs and activities: I am involved in CSF, Science Olympiad, Academic Club, yearbook and tennis.

What will you miss most about high school?: I will miss all my friends and the great teachers that we have at Tokay.

Next year: I plan to major in chemical biology at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, where I hope to join the swim team.

Goals in life: My goals include pursuing a career in the field of science, seeking out a happy, adventurous and fulfilling life and using my knowledge and skills to give back to the world around me.

Clubs and activities: CSF, Spanish Club, NHS, Interact Club, SPIRIT, Principal’s Advisory Council, crew, Conflict Management, Lodi Public Library Teen Advisory Council, Lodi Swim Club, varsity swimming.

What will you miss most about high school?: My friends and the memories we have made.


Sara Chan

Next year: I will major in math at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Goals in life: I want to work at a research facility and be involved in ground-breaking science technology.

Clubs and activities: Salsa Club president, Japanese Taiko drums, Japanese Club, CSF seal-bearer, Anime Club, math tutor, Storm Drain Detectives, St. George Youth Retreat 2004.

What will you miss most about high school?: My friends and our inside jokes.


Brent Dutra

Next year: I plan to major in physics with an emphasis in astrophysics from University of California, Berkeley.

Goals in life: To become a researcher in the field of physics, a professor at a major university or work at NASA or Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. It would be even more wonderful to be able to accomplish all four. I hope I can meaningfully contribute to society with what I discover through the use of science.

Clubs and activities: Competed in regional, state and national Science Olympiad competitions as well as Science Bowl, Academic Club, Science Club, Brain Power Club, CSF, NHS, varsity cross country for two years, ad manager for newspaper, volunteer for Lodi Public Library’s Computer Learning Center, Lodi Youth commissioner.

What will you miss most about high school?: The small atmosphere and closeness between students and teachers. Diversity and camaraderie will also be whole-heartedly missed.
