Welcome to the festival

It is such a pleasure to welcome you to the 2003 Lodi Grape Festival and Harvest Fair. This year our theme is California Dreamin’ and we have something for just about everyone.

Our fair is a wonderful blend of time honored traditions and exciting new events. We have all the old favorites like the Grape Stomp, the Swan Brothers Circus, and Susan Rosen, the hypnotist. And don’t forget all that mouth-watering cuisine.

There will be music just about everywhere you go: Blues, rock, folk, jazz, Latino — you name it. Heard of Leon Russell? He’ll be here. Heard of the Beatles? Well — they aren’t coming, but we’ve got Rain, and they look and sound just like the Beatles. We are also bringing in a comedian named Johnny Counterfit who does celebrity impersonations. He’ll make you laugh until your stomach hurts.

Like to eat? We’ve got all kinds of great tasting food. Just smelling it will drive you crazy. Put it in your mouth and you’ll go wild.

If you like creativity, visit the art exhibits. To see something unique to Lodi, go to the Grape Pavilion where you can check out the grape and agricultural commodity murals. They are just amazing! Imagine people taking grapes and other stuff that’s meant to eat and turning them into these beautiful artistic creations. You have to see it.

We added new things this year, like our Taste of the Festival event on Wednesday evening before the fair opens. For 50 bucks, you can come and preview the sights and sounds of the fair, eat some yummy fair food and help raise money for the mural prize winners and our new scholarship fund. It’s a party!

Also new is the Domino Blast Off in the Pavilion at 8 p.m. every day and at 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. You’ll be astounded at what these guys can do with a truckload of dominos and a little bit of gravity.

So come on over to the Grape Festival. Sept. 18 through Sept. 21. Bring your friends. Bring your family. Have a blast. Did I mention the food? It’s going to be great!
