When the annual Grape Festival opens Sept. 19, festival-goers will again experience an overwhelming array of fine food concessions. They will range from garlic fries to cobblers to barbecued meats of all kinds and roasted corn on the cob.

The snacker will find items such as deep-fried onion blossoms, popcorn, peanuts, soft pretzels, roasted almonds and pecans, kettle popcorn, deep-fried vegetables, cheese on a stick, pizza slices, nachos, french fries, stuffed jalapenos, chicken fingers and pizza bread.

Those with a heartier appetite will find it hard to choose from a variety of sandwiches including rib-eye steak, barbecue beef, hamburgers, grilled chicken, Philly cheese steak, turkey, tri-tip, submarines, bratwurst, polish, hot dogs, corn dogs, bagel dogs and foot-long hot dogs.

Then, of course, there’s always Mexican foods such as tacos, burritos, tostadas, enchiladas with brisket and tamales.

Oriental foods usually include pork ribs, teriyaki beef, chicken and shrimp, chow mein, and rice.

For those with a sweet tooth there are cinnamon rolls, peach and berry cobbler, fresh fruit smoothies, cotton candy, caramel apples, candy apples, pink popcorn, licorice, Cracker Jacks, soft serve and hand dipped ice cream, Frosties, banana splits, sundaes, shakes, freezes, floats, frozen bananas, caramel popcorn, sno cones and funnel cakes

Beverages include water, beer, wine, lemonade, lemon slush, sun tea, soft drinks, milk, hot chocolate, coffee, lemon shake-up, strawberry cooler and blended frozen fruit.

Most venders at the festival are made up of local businesses, non-profit organizations, local women’s clubs and fraternal organizations.

I hope you have a good time and will try some of the good foods that are available.

I may add that there are three things needed to enjoy festival food and that’s money, an appetite and maybe a package of Rolaids if you like the food so well that you eat too much.
