Lodi Hotel guests pose for 1890s photo

In the late 1890s on a routine day, a photographer got all action stopped and captured the attention of everyone at the busy Lodi Hotel on southwest corner of Pine and Sacramento streets. Businessmen and families came out of their rooms and gathered on the balcony or stopped their activity on the front sidewalk and in buggies on the street. Some of the men, who were called "chair warmers," sat out in chairs and watched the comings and goings on the dirt streets of Lodi's business district. In a few years, this street corner would take on a more modern view with the trees removed and an electric power pole at the corner.
