Wet Lodi streets

Downtown Lodi is shown after a recent rain in this 1914 photograph. This photograph, looking east from the Pine and School street intersection toward the Lodi Arch, shows the well-drained, paved street and horses and buggies that still used it. Paving this stretch of Pine School was completed just two years earlier in 1912. At the same time, the city upgraded the street lighting in the business section. Sixty electroliers with three globes of 100 watts each were installed along the streets. City leaders were extremely proud of this modernization, and believed that Lodi would have more light than any other town in the area.
