Samson Gas employee monitors irrigation

This vintage photograph shows Emery A. Thompson, a fruit packing company field man and salesman for Samson Gas Engines, watches over an irrigation ditch. Thompson, who was raised on his father John Thompson's grape ranch northwest of Woodbridge, graduated from Woodbridge College and worked as a photographer, farm laborer and gas engine salesman before settling on work as a field man for fruit packing companies Frank H. Buck Co., the Pacific Fruit Exchange and the Earl C. Anthony Co. Thompson is standing in front of a small pump house structure, painted as his advertisement, that houses the gas engine pumping the irrigation water.
