Early 1900s Horribles Parade

In the early 1900s, Lodi men loved to dress up in odd and funny costumes to “thrill and chill” spectators at parades. These entries were called “The Horribles,” and they had their own Horribles Parades during the first years of the Lodi Grape Festival. The Horribles Parade was a highly anticipated event during the Lodi Grape Festivals in 1934 through 1936. This early-1900s photograph shows a group of Horribles lining up with their horses and wagons outside of Crabtree Bros. Stables.
