When looking at past influential agricultural leaders and community-minded citizens, the name Sherwood Beckman is one that registers with longtime Lodians.

Grandson of Lodi pioneers, Sherwood Beckman was a lifelong Lodi farmer who championed the development of agriculture in the board rooms of wineries, the irrigation district, water agencies and the bank. Yet, his influence was felt in other ways. Many Lodians today remember Sherwood Beckman as the kind man who always had gum in his pockets and always was ready to talk to youths and help with Future Farmers, 4-H or other youth efforts.
