A century ago, times were prosperous and the Christmas spirit was widespread. In December 1913, Lodi’s two grammar schools were overcrowded, and the Bank of Lodi unveiled its new building in Downtown.
Newspaper advertisements for Lodi businesses urged people to “Try Lodi First” for Christmas shopping. Grape growers were thrilled with the lucrative harvest, and the community united for its first outdoor Yuletide celebration.
